Discover the Japan Adventure – Michinoku Coastal Trail – Sanriku Trail and Train
This section of the Michinoku Coastal Trail spans approximately 600 km, from Kabushima in Hachinohe, Aomori, to Kesennuma in Miyagi. Part of the trail’s 1,000 km total length, it offers not only the breathtaking scenery of the rugged ria coastline but also a chance to witness the recovery and resilience of communities following the Great East Japan Earthquake, as well as experience their rich local culture.
Highlights along the route include Kabushima in Hachinohe, where black-tailed gulls soar above; Jodogahama in Miyako, with its stunning contrast of white rocks and blue sea; and Kesennuma’s vibrant port town and recovery landmarks. Walking the trail, you’ll feel the refreshing sea breeze, pass through serene pine forests, and explore charming fishing villages, making it a truly immersive experience.
The region’s culinary culture is another attraction. Fresh seafood and traditional local dishes, combined with the warmth of the locals, enhance the journey.
