Another way to enjoy the Michinoku Shiokaze Trail with a local guide

The Michinoku Shiokaze Trail, which stretches more than 1,000 kilometers, offers a variety of landscapes, cultures, and foods of each region.

Above all, there are people’s lives and lifestyles. Walking with a guide, you will see different scenery than when you walk alone.

The Michinoku Shiokaze Trail was created to contribute to the recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake. The guides themselves are residents of the area and can tell you their own stories.
There are stories that can only be told by the guides themselves, who are local residents and live in the area. Each guide has his or her own special place to tell.
We hope that through interaction with our guides, you will want to come back to this area again. We look forward to hearing from you about the Michinoku Shiokaze Trail with a guide.

About the Trail & Train Guide

Trail & Train Guides are trained guides who can guide you on the 160 km area of the Michinoku Shiokaze Trail from Hachinohe to Tanohata Village.
We are a team of guides who can guide sections of the trail from one day to a maximum of three days and two nights, and we are committed to providing safety along the way and telling you about local attractions, places to eat, and other special things to do outside of the trail. In the future, we will gradually expand the areas we are able to guide and will be able to accompany clients who wish to take longer courses.

Guide Introduction

GOTO Mitsumasa

Walking Tohoku Institute

He has hiked the Michinoku Shiokaze Trail in sections (47 days in total), and has proposed a trail and train system based on his experience. Since he only tents for one day, he specializes in a style that utilizes lodging, trains, and cars.

KANGYU Toshikazu

Kuji Wide-area Tourism Council

Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture, is home to the “Northernmost Divers. The Michinoku Shiokaze Trail around Kita Sanriku is characterized by its varied courses. Walkers enjoy an enjoyable hike, with new discoveries popping up every day.

FARIS Quinlan

GoNorth Japan

I’m most passionate about the wilder northern sections of the trail in Iwate – particularly the section in Tanohata. There’s a lot of steep terrain, but the 200-meter cliffs and hand-carved tunnels make it all worth it. I’m an avid forager and enjoy sharing my knowledge about local plants, as well as storytelling about the folklore and history of North Japan.

NISHIYA Raisuke

In-Outbound Tohoku

I enjoy section hiking mainly in Miyagi and Aomori prefectures, and I like to walk light with an UL (ultralight) mindset, and I also incorporate overnight stays in tents.

SHINA Katy

Michinori Travel Tohoku

I walk about 70% of the trail on section hikes of the Michinoku Shiokaze Trail. If I come to walk, my specialty is a style of walking that allows me to take my time and enjoy and experience the attractions and scenery of the area.

SAKURABA Wakako

Michinori Travel Tohoku

The Michinoku Shiokaze Trail, where you can enjoy both the mountains and the ocean, is a section hike as you find the time. This trail is perfect for those who love to walk and climb. While walking, the best part is interacting with local people, finding things you can only get in the area, and enjoying food you can’t taste.
